Clicking his tongue and more...

Sam started clicking his tongue today.  It is really cute and he is so proud of himself when I do it and then he copies me.

Sam is getting much better with eating puffs.  He is still dropping about 1/2 of them but he is getting a lot more into his mouth than he has been.  What's funny is that he will pick up one in each hand before trying to put one into his mouth.  He will attempt to eat them out of both hands but if he gets frustrated he will transfer the puff from his left hand to his right hand before trying again.  He gets so excited when he sees the container coming toward him - he throws his arms up and waves them around in excitement.

Clapping toys together

Sam started clapping two toys together yesterday and he continued doing it again this morning.  Maybe this is a step in the direction of learning to just clap his hands, because when we try to get him to do that he looks at us like we are crazy.

Dropping the third nap

Today I took away Sam's third nap; he hasn't been going to sleep until about 30 minutes before time to get up again so I thought it was time.  In order to drop the nap I gave him a snack instead of his dinner at 4p and then fed him dinner a little after 5:30.  He then enjoyed some puffs while the rest of us had dinner around 6.  It was the first time the 4 of us were together for dinner because Sam is normally in bed at that time.

He did really well handling the change and he enjoyed getting to play after his bath.  He went down for the night at 7 and went right to sleep.

For snack he had Strawberry applesauce for the first time and loved it.

The puzzle thief

Sam loves to chew on the knobs of puzzle pieces so he is not allowed to play with them.   This morning he picked up a puzzle piece and then looked at me.  Of course I shook my head no and said "Sam, we don't chew on puzzle pieces".  Instead of putting the piece down he grabbed on and took off crawling away from me.  He crawled 5-6 feet and then sat up and started to put it in his mouth again.  We went through the same "don't eat it" process and he pulled it down and took off again going another 3-4 feet away from me, except this time he didn't sit up; he stayed on his tummy and went to put it in his mouth.  I called to him and he looked at me over his shoulder and sighed.  He just can't get away with anything.  :-)

Avocado

Tonight for dinner after his bottle and baby food I fed Sam some fresh avocado.  He did really good with it.  He was a little unsure with the first bite because he needed to do more than just swallow it, but he figured it out.  He ate several bites and seemed to enjoy it.

Road trip and vacation adventures

Sam did awesome on the 2-day road trip. He played with toys and slept.  He would get a little upset about being put back in his car seat after a stop but he calmed down immediately when we started moving again.

Sam also did great meeting all of the family.  He loved Uncle Mike and Uncle Robert and he made a new best friend in Tori when she gave him a stuffed froggie.

Sam started actually crawling on Mike's rugs and would do his push/pull thing on the bare floors.  He even crawled in the trailer floor and went right under the table at one point.  Now that we are back home he isn't crawling anymore, just doing his push/pull thing.

Yesterday Sam started saying "g's" for the first time.  He isn't using him m's anymore, just b's and now g's.

Oh my gosh...the screaming!

Sam decided yesterday that he was going to start screaming during feedings.  When he finishes his bottle and there is no more formula he starts screaming; when he finishes his food he starts screaming; when he finishes his teething biscuit he starts screaming.  Oh dear goodness.

He tried to do that again today but mommy was onto his plans.  When his breakfast bottle was empty he started to scream and I immediately said "boo" into his face (which makes him laugh) and he couldn't help it - he laughed.  And that was it - no more screaming today.  Whew!

He started something else a few days ago - he is sticking his tongue out while playing.  I keep telling him to stop that and eventually he will pull it in but yesterday he bit his tongue.  Thankfully he didn't cut himself but he did have teeth marks on his tongue for a little while.  And of course he looked at me like "what the heck mom" - seriously?  I told him to stop it.  :-)

Sam is doing really well with being told not to do something.  He will generally freeze and look at you and if you keep telling him what to stop doing he will stop.  For example, telling him not to put a book in his mouth - he will stop and look at you and then put the book down.  It doesn't mean he won't pick it right back up and stick it back in his mouth again - but at least he is getting the hang of "don't do that".

On the move

Sam tried to get moving behind his new walk behind toy but it moves too fast and he took 2 steps and then fell down.  So Will said, try Megan's wagon.

Megan's wagon is designed for first time walkers so it is heavy enough to be pulled on and it moves much slower than a regular toy.  Sam ended up taking several steps across the room behind the wagon.  Will got it on video.  Yay Sam!
